Charles Koller’s first appeal of Biblical preaching is the appeal to altruism which he defines as: “a benevolent regard for the interests of others.”
Koller demonstrates this appeal with a story found in Numbers 10:29-33. Here Hobab wouldn’t go with Moses for the good that would happen to him if he were to go into the Promised Land. However, when Moses pled for the good that Hobab could do, Hobeb responded.
There are some people who are only touched by the appeal for the good of others. Certainly this appeal should be a part of our own preaching.
