Sometimes you sit down to put a sermon together…
And the sermon just flows…
The words just come to you…
The concepts…
You make connections between what Sister Betty said and the Apostle Paul said, and then you find Moses addressed the same exact thing.
Under an hour the whole framework for the sermon has totally come together…
And you smile…
This is how it is “supposed to be…”
Then there are those other times…
You go to the Bible…
And the point eludes you…
You run after it…
You struggle to find it…
But the point leaves you…
You struggle with that text…
Hoping to find something…
But nothing works…
You can’t find the relevance…
You can’t find how it addresses or affects “grandma and dem.”
You struggle…
And then after many hours…
You try to piece together something…
And you wonder why?
Why is it sometimes the words just flow…other times…not so much?
Sometimes you KNOW you hit all cylinders…
Sometimes you don’t…
Now, I can’t tell you why this is…
But I can tell you that sometimes you can do legitimate study and still struggle…
I can’t tell you why…all I can tell you is what to do when that happens…
You go head and study anyway….
You go head and struggle anyhow…
And trust God’s promise that when the word will not come back void…
So I don’t know how your sermon preparation week is going…
Whether you are hitting all cylinders…
Or sputtering to the finish line…
But I encourage you to go on and struggle through…
Cause God has a blessing even in your struggles
Till next time…
Brother Sherman.
