What’s the matter with my sermon Doc?
You know what. In many cases it comes down to one of three things…
1) You didn’t have a clear presentation of the good news.
2) You didn’t make sure all of your points…yeah all of them…support and promote that clear presentation of the good news.
3) You didn’t end with a powerful celebration of that good news…
Yep…in many cases you did one of those things..There are other reasons…
Like you may not have prepared well…or you didn’t have the spirit permeate the whole sermonic preparation process…But if I had to give you 3 reasons…those 3 are the ones…
You told an irrelevant story and thus broke point 2 above.
You didn’t ensure a proper understand and application to their daily lives and thus broke point 3 above.
You went up there and preached 2 or 3 or perhaps more sermons..
3 points and a poem doesn’t mean 3 sermons and a whoop…That breaks point 1 above.
Sometimes folks who are proud of their solid content (and that is important) have too much content…
Remember, preachers, you are preaching for the long haul…
So take your text. Find good news in the text. One piece of good news. Make sure that ALL the stories, illustrations, and points support that main point…
And make it clear…
Then celebrate the truth of that main point…
And then you will not just end with power, but the point of the sermon will be drilled inot the minds of the people as they have heard, experienced, and celebrated that truth.
Till tomorrow,
Brother Sherman
