According to Charles Finney, the way to preach without converting anybody is to:
Preach on every doctrine that centers the attention on man rather than Jesus. Teach every doctrine that makes man the center of God’s attention rather than God the center of man’s devotion. Tell people only what God will do for them.
Avoid preaching about the necessity of a radical change of heart, through the truth revealed to the heart by the agency of the Holy Spirit.
Let your supreme motive to be popular with all people, then, of course, your preaching will be suited for that purpose, and not to convert souls to Christ.
A pastor friend of mine told me that there are many so called “great” preachers who preach “great” sermons, but their preaching does not seem to have the conversion power only given by the Holy Ghost.
Too many preachers are simply preaching sermons about “God hooking you up.” Their sermons are about what humanity is going to get. It is about the money, jobs, fame, etc that God has for those who are God’s own.
Jesus is turned into Santa Clause in this facsimile of the Christian faith. This weak approximation of true Christianity is a dominant part of current Christianity, but real Christianity radically confronts humanity and includes both what God has done for humanity and what God has empowered humanity to do. It is good news of a new order. It is not your way to a life of ease and comfort without ever taking up a cross. (Mark 8:34). If we are to truly make a difference in our preaching we must move past the temptation to tell people what they want to hear towards preaching with they need to hear to be changed.

To preach mightily is to convert souls to Christ. That’s why, we as Christians are tasked to spread the Good News to all the people to all the world, as mandated in the “Great Commission.”
