I was a member of a church of about 50. We didn’t have a full time pastor so the head elder scheduled the elders to preach.
One week..I showed up and you know what…
I was scheduled to preach…
The head elder said he told me. I didn’t remember the call ever coming. But all that is beside the point.
The people showed up ready to hear a word from God and providence had tapped my shoulder.
I was happy that I had begun preparation for a sermon not knowing when the time would come.
You remember that other story I told you a few weeks ago about my classmate who was called on to preach upon visiting a father’s friend’s church…
Yeah…
Well guess what. When God called you to preach…that meant for you to be ready in season and out of season.
That meant for you to have a word ready…
You may be one of those preachers who preach once a month…
or once a year…
or maybe you don’t know when you are going to preach again…
How can you be ready under those circumstances? What do you do?
I got a question for you, “Are you a preacher?”
Huh?
Yeah, I’m talking to you…are you a preacher?
You say you are a preacher, then that means you are ready to give a word…
How do you get ready? How do you get home when your car is broken down? You just do it!
How do you get ready? How do you make dinner when your oven goes out? You just do it!
How do you get ready? My sisters and brothers…you just do it!
God has called you…
God expects you to be ready.
When they put their hands on your head and ordained you…
Or licensed you…
They were saying…be ready…
I don’t know if it is gonna be at a downtown rescue mission…
I don’t know if it is gonna be a word of hope to a hopeless co-worker…
I don’t know how or when it is gonna come…but if God called you…and the church recognized that call and licensed or ordained you…
Then what do you do? You be ready.
This week…I want you to put together a sermon. Maybe you aren’t preaching this week…Well prepare like you are gonna preach a sermon…
This week…we are gonna be ready…
This week…we are gonna step in when God calls…
This week…stand with me yall…
When God taps you on the shoulder…you will be glad you were ready…
