You know what..
There is a great temptation to…
Lie in the pulpit…
I know you ain’t hearing that…your piety forces you to act surprised and to say, “What are you talking bout now Cox?”
I’m serious though
And it is your very piety that is pushing you to do it…
So you want to know what I’m talking bout…
OK..I’ll tell you…
Some of you are preaching about a member that lost a job…”But God told me to tell ya…a new and better job is coming…”
yep….I heard it and you have too….
we shout…we jump….
But then we look the other way or ignore it when the member is still unemployed after two years…
or underemployed…
God didn’t tell you that…
you lied…
Somebody is even quoting the Bible….”I am young and now I am old but I have never seen the righteous forsaken, or his seed begging bread.”…Psalm 37:25
And we shout….
We jump….
But then we have those members who did everything “right” and they still have to cry at dinner time…
Did God tell you that?
Sometimes our celebrations to our sermons are simply fiction that we don’t even believe…
And then we get our people to shout for this…
Forgive me….
But if your prophecies of a hook up never come true then we have to wonder who gave you those prophecies and where did they come from?
What is the answer?
I’ll tell you the answer…only preach what you know…
not just what you hope was true…
Not just what you think might be true…
Preach what you know…
If all you know is Jesus Loves you….then I want you to preach that like your life depends on it…
If all you know is “even if I make my bed in hell, thou art with me.” Psalm 139:8
Then preach that…and preach it hard…and preach it as hard as some folks preach what they don’t know…
What are you saying Cox?
I’m saying that we already can go to enough places to hear people lie to us….don’t make church one of those things….
