You want a quick way to put together a sermon?
Someone asked that I repost this…so here it is…
You give THREE ANSWERS TO ONE QUESTION.
This is an easy way to put together a coherent sermon?
OK…I don’t know if it is the easiest…but when you are facing sermon block…why not try this method…
First come up with a question related to your text…
Then give 3 answers to that question that come directly from the text…
Finally, celebrate the text given answer…
That’s it…
This is not the only way to put together a sermon…but it can be helpful to throw in…
Here is an example…
Let’s look at Romans 13:11-14…
Now as I read the text the question comes to mind: “How to be ready for God’s future?” Or, “How to follow God in a world bent on following Satan?” Or “How to be the Christian that God called us to be?”
This is not the sermon title. Although it could be. But it is a question that holds the sermon together…
Then…
The text here provides the answer…
The Bible says to first Wake Up. Verse 11.
So take Wake up…Now do the 5 things I just told you to do to expand a sermon outline into a sermon…Namely
Define
Illustrate
Apply
Connect to Scripture
Celebrate
Now move on…let’s see, Throw off. Yeah, the Bible says to put off the works of darkness in verse 12.
Now…what do you do with that point?
Yeah…you do the 5 things:
Define
Illustrate
Apply
Connect to Scripture
Celebrate
Then go back to the text…is here a third answer to our question?
There sure is…Put on the works of righteousness or put on Christ verse 14 or put on light verse 13.
OK…now what do you think I am going to tell you to do with that point?
Right…
The 5 things that I told you to do in the last series of emails…
Define…
Illustrate…
Apply…
Connect to Scripture…
Celebrate…
Add an introduction and a celebration…
Again, this is not the only homiletic structure…but do you see the possibilities here?
Again…I’m giving you gold up in here…all you have to do is follow it…
Yep…This is a dense post…
