Good question…
This will not be as involved as Supercharge Your Sermons…
But…
It will be a basic starter…
You ever wanted to understand how to preach sermons in the Black Preaching Tradition but needed the big picture…
Well that’s why I’m here…
We gonna hit the big picture…
BUT by the end…
YOU are going to construct a sermon…
I will give you some pointers…hints…and direction…and pointers…
But you will do the work…
If you are in…
Now we are going to take 2 weeks to do this…
Some of you are pastors who preach every week.
OK…go head and keep on doing what you doing, but give me 30 minutes a day on the side.
Once you do it, then you will have a skill that you can use over and over…
To those of you who don’t have to preach every week…
You will be starting a habit…of constructing sermons…
Because you will have a complete sermon…
Done…
Ready to Preach…
Are you in?
Now I can’t respond to all the questions, but I will hit some of them as they come in…
So let’s begin…
You need a text…I encourage you all to get a passage of scripture that you will preach on…
It can be a chapter…
It can be a verse…
But preferable would be a short passage or paragraph…
Now I’m gonna do this too…
I am going to go to the Revised Common Lectionary and use Jeremiah 33:14-16.
****Here is what you don’t do***
Don’t choose a subject…Nope…
Don’t choose a theme…Nope…
Don’t choose a celebration…Please no…
Don’t have any preconceived notions about what God is gonna say through your text…
If you do any of those things it will direct your sermon in a way that it shouldn’t…
Just choose a text.
Your Assignment for today (If You Choose To Accept the Challenge):
1) Choose your passage.
2) Pray that God will guide you.
3) Get ready for the ride.
4) Email me your scripture.
