There was a show that used to come on television called “Pimp my Ride.”
Xzibit, the rapper, was the host of the show.
In the show Xzibit would go find people who had beat up cars.
I mean really beat up cars…
Messed up big time…
Sometimes they were barely drivable…
Then Xzibit would take that car to his team…
And the team would hook those cars up…
They called it “Pimp My Ride.”
Now since I’m a preacher…I have been trained to think theologically about EVERYTHING…
So for some reason Xzibit’s television show made me think of prayer…
How come?
Well We come to the Lord in prayer…
And if we use a model like Too Busy Not to Pray by Bill Hybels’ to pray…
We would Glorify the Lord for his attributes in that prayer…
We Thank God for all God has done in the past and will do for us and others…
And finally we ask God for those things that we want…and need…
We say amen…
That prayer…
Our prayer
No matter how well we have done it…
No matter how well crafted it is…
It still needs some help…
Our prayer is just like that beat up car that Xzibit would go find…
But thank God…the prayer ain’t over…
In fact it has just started…
Yep…Romans 8:26-27 reminds us that we don’t know how to pray…
We don’t know what to say…
But we got a go-between…
We got a translator…
We got somebody that is fixin to “Pimp our Prayer…”
See The Holy Ghost is gonna hook our prayer up before it gets to the throne…
The Holy Ghost is gonna mix in some special communication called “Sighs too deep for words.” Romans 8:26.
I feel like preaching up in here…
The Holy Ghost takes our prayer that is between us and the Father…
And the Holy Ghost turns it into something that the Father will hear correctly…
And adds in some things that are too deep for words…
Just like Xzibit’s team adds things to make that car drivable…and then not just drivable but also a work of art…
The Holy Ghost starts fixin up that prayer…
Some things that we didn’t ask for, but need…The Holy Ghost puts up in there…
Some things that our “weakness” would keep us from seeing and doing…The Holy Ghost starts massaging into that prayer…
Oh yes…The Holy Ghost hooks that prayer up…
Don’t worry if your prayer ain’t exactly right….
Do your best….and Then watch God Pimp that Prayer…
This is the only way you and I can come boldly to the throne of grace. (Hebrews 4:16)…
Ask the Lord for hope…and watch God Pimp that Prayer…
So Go head on and praise Him…
Knowing that even though your praise is gonna fall short…
The Holy Ghost is gonna pimp that prayer…
Go head and confess all of your sins….knowing you ain’t gonna get them all..you gonna forget something…be specific…but you ain’t gonna hit them all…
But you know The Holy Ghost is fixing to pimp that prayer…
Go head and thank the Lord….The Holy Ghost is gonna add more thanksgiving…
Go head and ask for what you want…knowing that God knows what is best…and that the Holy Ghost will hook that prayer up….
Don’t hesitate to let God see your late model Volkswagen bug prayer…
No need to worry…
The promise of this scripture is that the Holy Ghost is gonna pimp that prayer…
And after the Holy Ghost get through your prayer is gonna look like that ferarri that can go from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds…
Holy God….
You are long-suffering unto us.
You are gracious unto us…
Please forgive us for not taking advantage of this great communication mechnaism that you hae given to us…A Conversation between you and us by way of the Spirit…
We thank you for fixing up our prayer and we pray that you would help us to not forget how answer is certain when the Holy Ghost intercedes on our behalf…
