Seed-picking Preaching
Lingamish has a post up where he decries what he calls “seed-picking” in sermon presentation. Here the preacher jumps from text to text quickly and without giving proper attention to background and the context of the texts used.

However, another preacher, named Flames Montgomery, gave the people steaks and the people got full.
The Homiletical Hermeneutic
The Theocentric Preaching blog has an interesting post on how to avoid the “Homiletic Hermeneutic.” The homiletic hermeneutic is one where the homiletical impulse overpowers the original meaning of the text. In it the author quotes the Expository Thoughts blog, which quotes Daniel I. Block, by giving 6 characteristics that show evidence of using a “homiletical hermeneutic.”
Preaching and Seminary
Over at the Placement Reflections blog Ed Eubanks writes about the importance of seminary students actually preaching sermons in churches before graduation. Interestingly enough, I reflected on my own seminary experience and realized that in my 3 Homiletics courses I have only preached 2 sermons. I then realized it was possible to leave with an MDiv and not preach any sermons whatsoever.
